Your Boiler Diagnostics Tool, Version 2.0

This PC based computer program is designed to evaluate and diagnose one or more on-line Power Boiler(s). It will give you a detailed summary of performance & cost data while identifying and correcting for measurement problems.

Version 2.0 has been improved to emphasise Fuel Cost Savings.
Here's a surprise for you!! Boiler Effiicency is not really that important!! It is a means to an end and the end is REDUCING FUEL COSTS.

Now boilerOptimizer answers these types of questions;
"we tried increasing the soot blowing frequency this shift and want to know; what are the dollar savings that are measured and predicted?"

"what is the best steam load for this boiler today that minimizes our cost per lb of steam??"

"what are the projected annual dollar savings for this boiler if we can reduce the excess oxygen from the current value of 3.9% at this load to our target of 2.6% ???"


Energy Management on a disk will provide you with detailed performance information that you might have required an outside consultant to generate for you in the past. Go to the next management meeting with up-to-date cost information.

Helps you answer the question, " What is the optimum load distribution , fuel mix and excess air conditions to minimize my fuel costs?"

All other efficiency programs ASSUME all measured values are accurate!. boilerOptimizer does not!

The program will ask you to input real time data and will simultaneously calculate the apparent efficiency using the mass balance Input/Output and the Loss methods. Of course you know that these two methods almost never agree. The reason is that there is always some data that is doubtful because instruments are never dead accurate. How do you resolve this? Since there is only one REAL efficiency, this program will use the differences in the two methods and other redundancies to systematically help in identifying measurement errors and make corrections until the MOST PROBABLE EFFICIENCY is displayed.

With your guidance and experience of the system, the program will identify instrumentation problems and/or measurement problems such as air leakage due to fan imbalance.

Using statistical methods, a mathematical model of this boiler will be created and this will allow"What If" predictions of the effect of changing conditions and will allow tracking the performance of the system over time by adjusting back to STANDARD CONDITIONS"

A database of information will accumulate that can be so sensitive that usually, the difference in performance between supposedly identical, side-by-side boilers will be demonstrated. In some cases even the difference in operating procedures between individual shifts can be identified.

Budget and cost performance information will be generated for the boilers under study allowing an optimization strategy to be implemented through load shifting or fuel mixes.

This program is intended to supplement your existing computer programs, not replace them!
